Position description
The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics (http://www.pediatrics.ucsd.edu) at UC San Diego and Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego is committed to academic excellence among its faculty, staff, and student body and seeks a Director of Fetal Cardiology. This is a unique opportunity to lead and expand a highly respected program dedicated to the early detection, diagnosis, and management of congenital heart disease in utero.
Ranked among the ten Best Children's Hospitals in the nation by US News & World Report, Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego is a 511-bed non-profit pediatric teaching facility that provides exceptional medical and surgical care to a diverse population of one million children and adolescents. The Division of Pediatric Cardiology consists of 33 faculty members with depth in the full range of cardiac subspecialties, and three cardiac surgeons. The infrastructure includes a CTICU with 24/7 staffing by eight cardiac intensivists and 30 beds. Annual program volumes include approximately 400 cardiac surgeries, over 700 cardiac catheterizations, 20,000 echocardiograms, 15,000 outpatient visits, and 1,000 fetal cardiology visits. The Division has excelled in every aspect of its clinical mission, and our commitment to equity and inclusion drives every aspect of our clinical and academic pursuits. Program resources include a full-time dedicated fetal cardiac nurse coordinator and access to Heart Institute infrastructure, including research personnel, IT support, and administrative leadership.
As Director of Fetal Cardiology, the successful candidate will provide clinical and academic leadership for all fetal cardiology services, including fetal imaging, maternal/family consultations, diagnostic interpretation, and coordinated prenatal care planning. The role involves close collaboration with maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology, cardiothoracic surgery, and other pediatric subspecialties to ensure seamless perinatal care. Additional responsibilities include leading program development and outreach initiatives, engaging in quality improvement efforts, educating and teaching trainees, and contributing to research and academic scholarship.
